Deep Play, Chapter 9 - Waiting Game

A woman get's lonely, baby

If you would only love me, the way that you used to.

If you would only hold me, darlin'

Tell me you want me, More than anything

'Cause I need you, I need you to be my man.

A woman get's lonely.

Sally straightened the satin jacket of her favorite jade pajama's, and glanced at the alarm clock on the dresser. She pushed the long strand of blond hair out of her face, tucking it under the rubber band that held the rest. Spotting the picture of Wufei on her end table, she growled. The coward was late coming in.

:::He's not a coward.::: She amended to herself, admitting that he might have had just cause to leave. At least, in his eyes. She had thought that he had dealt with his wife's death long ago. :::My being pregnant, and a preventer, brought the old fear back.::: As a doctor, Sally knew that it was a natural reaction.

"It's still annoying!" She mumbled, walking over to the iron bars on the window. Glancing down at the pool below, she was surprised to see the object of her thoughts swimming laps in the pool below.

"Wufei?"

His lean body gracefully cut through the glistening water as he swam to the end of the pool. Not bothering with the steps, he went to the side and lifted himself out.

The blond found herself gazing raptly at the play of his muscles as he moved, missing little as he walked towards the glass table. He picked up the towel that lay on the seat, and bending a little, he used it to dry his inky black hair.

Sally gasped, realizing exactly how long it had been since they had made love. Wufei must have heard her, because he quickly turned, dropping the towel onto the concrete. Sally pulled herself back into the shadows, watching as he shrugged, then turned to pick up the towel.

His wet bathing suit clung to his buttocks, and she found herself fantasizing about the feel of them under her hands. Wufei stood up, and she sighed, regretfully watching as he sat down in the chair. He stared up into the sky, and she frowned, wondering what he was thinking about.

:::Does he hate this game as much as I do?:::

Wufei lowered his gaze suddenly, meeting her eyes in the window. Surprised, she didn't have a chance to move, and she knew that he could see the hungry expression on her face. Deciding to brazen it out, she smiled a challenge down to him, waiting to see if he would accept it.

He raised his eyebrows, and silently mouthed, "You want?". Sally nodded, and he stood up, smirking. Without another look, he threw his towel around his neck and walked inside.

Sally waited at the window, as, a few minutes later, she heard the whoosh of the iron bars slide into thier casing in the ceiling.

She closed her eyes, her back towards the door, listening as his footsteps came closer. She felt his breath on the back of her neck, brushing against the curls that hung loose from her pony tail.

"Did you wish to see me, Woman?" Wu asked, speaking low into her ear.

Goosebumps rose on her arms as she turned, her arms wrapping around his waist.

"I miss you." She admitted, resting her head on his shoulder. "I want to stay mad, but I can't."

He held her chin in his hand, forcing her to look at him. "Why, Sally?" He asked, needing to hear the words.

"Because I love you, Wufei. Is that what you wanted to hear? Damn it all, but I... love... you..."

He brushed his lips against hers, soft, hardly daring to breath, hardly daring to hope. It had seemed like an eternity since he had told her his feelings. An eternity wondering if she felt the same way. Quietly, he met her eyes.

"Is that so bad, Sal?"

She sighed, then turned away, just trying to put words to thought. Once again, she moved to look out of the window, breathing in the midnight serenity.

Wufei came up behind her, and lay his palms over her shoulders.

"Sally?" He prompted, his voice strangely hesitant.

She reached up behind her, trapping his hands with hers.

"No, Wufei. It's not bad." Sally admitted, leaning back against him, "but it scares me. I know you, Chang! You would not stop until I was home, barefoot and pregnant, cooking you dinner and never raising my voice to you or offering my opinions!" Her voice rose with imagined outrage, and she started to glare into the night as she felt his chest shake behind her.

"Woman, do I look like I have a death wish?" he laughed. "I could NEVER respect a woman who would let me walk all over her! Meek? How boring! Why would I want a creature like that, when I have one of fire right here?"

"You're just trying to make me feel better." she said, her heart feeling strangely lighter.

"Really?" he asked, spinning her around to meet his gaze, "Then tell me why I love you so much? I could have married long ago, if I wanted a woman such as you described. You know this, Woman! So, tell me, if you are right... then why am I here?"

"The baby?" she responded, knowing that her argument was weak.

"A monthly child support check, and weekend visits." he refuted, smirking, knowing that for now, he had won.

"That's another thing about you. You always have to have the last word."

"Only half the time." He grinned, "I let you have it the other half."

"Let me?" Sally teased, then shrugged, content to let the matter drop. "Wufei... what do we do now?"

"We can always get married."

She looked at him, incredulous. :::Did he really say what she thought he said?:::

"Married? Wufei, stop! Haven't you heard anything that I said?"

"I heard. I just think that you are being absurd! Woman, we love each other, and we are having a child! We work together, we sleep together! I trust no one the way I trust you! If that's not good enough reason, than I really don't know how to convince you! Dammit, Sally! You are driving me crazy!"
