Here's my first Wufei/Sally fic! I think that if Wufei and Sally ended up as partners in the Preventers, this is what would eventually happen. Wuffie (*Wufei pops up outta nowhere* "Hey, don't call me that, onna!") may be a little OOC, but I think that he would eventually end up like I've portrayed him here. If you think differently, or have anything that you don't wanna say in a review, e-mail me at wingscythe12@hotmail.com Just so ya know, the words in the parentheses (these( )) are echoing/background vocals, 'cause the song was sung by two people. And a BIG thanx to Makoto Yuy for beta-reading this for me. Thanx, Makoto! Now, on with the story!

Disclaimer: Don't own GW or the song "Mirror, Mirror". The former belongs to Sunrise, Bandai, etc. and the latter belongs to the female duo, M2M, who are absolutely fantastic!

Mirror, Mirror

By Angel of Death

Show me what I wanna see

Mirror, mirror, lie to me

Show me what I wanna see . . .)"

22-year-old Sally Po, a.k.a. Preventer Water, stood in front of her full-length mirror at her apartment in her usual green khakis, green long-sleeved shirt, and dark green vest. Any one who knew her, however, could tell that something was seriously wrong with the normally-exuberant soldier, who was listening mindlessly to the rain that was falling outside. Her brownish-blonde hair, which was normally well-kept, was tousled and out of it's usual two twists that hung down on her shoulders. Her clear, sky-blue eyes that often sparkled with intelligence and humor were blank and empty. She stared at the image the mirror presented to her and gave a slight, bitter smirk. I guess what they say, about mirrors reflecting your true soul, is true. she thought. 'Cause my soul feels pretty awful right now . . .

"Why don't I like the girl I see?

The one who's standing right in front of me?

Why don't I think before I speak?

I should have listened to that voice inside me

I must be stupid, must be crazy, must be outta my mind

To say the kinda things I said last night . . ."

* * *FLASHBACK* * *

Sally and her partner, Wufei, stood in Sally's apartment, arguing vehemently about something or other, as usual. Wufeihad come over to review their boss, Lady Une's, reports when the fight had started. The lady who lived in the house nextdoor to the apartment complex looked up at the window in Sally's room and sighed before going into her house. Insidethe apartment, Sally stood about two yards across from Wufei, her face red. Wufei also looked stirred up, "stirred up"being an understatement. Both were yelling at the top of their lungs, so loud that it would have been impossible for eitherto hear the other. Finally, both just stood in silent rage, clenching their fists and glaring at each other. It wasn't surprisingthat they were arguing again, after all, you can hardly spend an hour in Wufei's company without getting into anargument about something. So far, Sally had been the only one who could stand him, but it looked like that was about to change.

"You know, I really don't care what you think! You're a chauvinist and a pessimistic jerk!" Sally yelled, taking a deep breath. She knew that what she'd said wasn't entirely true. Wufei still thought better of men than women, but he didn't insult them or put down Noin and Sally nearly as much as he used to. And over the years since the war had ended, Wufei had learned to loosen up and smile more often, even though he and Sally still argued as much as ever. But lately, all it had been was affectionate bickering. This was the first heated argument they'd had in over two months. Wufei was taken aback at how angry Sally was. All he'd really done was make a comment and somehow he'd set her off. But he wasn't going to stand around and let her insult him. He drew himself up and prepared to retaliate but got surprised yet again when she silenced him.

"And I don't want to hear anything more about it. Get out of my apartment." Sally said in a calm-and-quiet-yet-somehow-loud fury. A brief flash of hurt flew across Wufei's eyes but Sally was too worked-up to notice. Henodded, picked up the papers he'd brought, and left. Sally slammed the door behind him and didn't feel any remorsewhat-so-ever for another two hours, despite the fact that she and Wufei had grown close. She stood there, with her back to the door, two hours later and contemplated going over to his apartment and apologizing but decided against it.

"If he wants my friendship badly enough, he'll come apologize to me. After all, he was the one who started it." Sally told herself and walked away from the door, letting her pride take over what her heart was trying desperately to tell her . . .

"Mirror, mirror hanging on the wall

You don't have to tell me who's the biggest fool of all

Mirror, mirror I wish you could lie to me

And bring my baby back, bring my baby back to me . . .

(Mirror, mirror, lie to me

Show me what I wanna see . . .)"

Sally was still standing in front of her mirror when she came back from the memory. And she still looked worse-for-the-wear. She watched in horror as a tear slid down her pale cheek and fell onto her uniform, leaving a damp trail behind it. She wiped the one that was following it before it could fall and looked at it, noticing how it looked like the rain that was falling outside. All at once, tears started to roll down her cheeks. With a heart-wrenching sob, she dashed out of her apartment, down the stairs to the first floor, and out the side door into the storm that was getting worse every minute. She bowed her head against the wind, still crying, and dashed down the deserted street. It's three p.m. but no-one's out. she thought briefly, looking at the sky that was only letting in a little of the hazy, gray sunlight. Her hair was soon plastered, sopping, to her head and her clothes were soaked. After another five minutes or so of running, she turned into the trees on her right that had been getting thicker the farther she ran. She soon found herself in her secret grove, the only place she could really be alone. She had brought some wood a week ago, when she had found the spot, and had built a bench that, while it wasn't fancy, was somewhat comfortable. She walked by it and knelt in front of the small, clear pond that was in the middle of the clearing. The trees sheltered the area a little, and the pond was sheltered enough to where Sally could see her rippling reflection. She looked even worse than she had when she had been in her room. Why? she thought miserably. Why did I have to be so stupid? Why did I have to let my stupid pride take over me? Take over my heart?

*****

"Why did I let you walk away

When all I had to do was say 'I'm sorry"?

I let my pride get in the way

And in the heat of the moment I was to blame

I must be stupid, must be crazy, must be outta my mind

Now, in the cold light of the day, I realize . . ."

* * *FLASHBACK* * *

Wufei sat, with his arms crossed and a scowl on his face, in one of the three front rows of the church that had been reserved for the close friends of the couple getting married, Heero and Relena. Sally stood behind Relena in her light-aquamarine bridesmaid dress. Her hair was let out of it's usual two twists and it hung loosely down her back, framing her face slightly like Lady Une's did when her hair was down. It glittered and sparkled from all the time she'd spent washing, conditioning, and combing it. Her eyes were lit up as she watched the soon-to-be-husband-and-wife say their vows. 'I hope I'll be where Relena is someday.' she thought, wondering what her wedding would be like when she had it. Then again, she didn't even know who she was going to marry yet, she realized. 'Or do I?' she thought as her eyes traveled to the Chinese Preventer in the front row (AN: Pure Wufei torture! Wufei, that's for always insulting us women!) But her thoughts were halted when the whole assembly erupted in applause at the sight of the newly-weds kissing. Sally chuckled when her friend, Duo, whistled loudly.

***ONE HOUR LATER***

The tossing of the bouquet and garter had begun. Sally and the other single women there were waiting anxiously for Relena to toss the bouquet. Relena grinned evilly and put on a mock-innocent face.

"Now, where shall I toss it?" she said, scratching her chin as if in deep thought.

"Just throw it, already!" Sally yelled. Relena smiled and, turning around, threw the flowers over her head. The women dove for it, as one, and clawed at each other in their haste. A minute later, Sally came up as the victor. Meanwhile, the garter had been tossed and Wufei had ended up with it. He had raised his hand at the man who was handing out glasses of water and champagne and the garter had slipped neatly onto his outstretched wrist. Relena herded Sally out of the crowd while Heero did the same to Wufei. Relena tried to keep from laughing as she held up both their hands.

"According to the Peacecraft family's legend, whatever two people catch the bouquet and garter are to be the next two people to get married. So-"

"So let's congratulate the two lovebirds!" Duo interrupted, making Wufei and Sally blush and everyone else double over in laughter.

"Wha-but-but-that's-" Wufei sputtered in indignation while Sally just laughed . . .

Sally got up from her kneeling position by the pond and, taking one last look at her reflection, left the secluded grove. She trudged along with the wind howling in her ears, not really knowing where she was going, until her feet stopped oftheir own accord and her head tilted up. She was standing in front of an apartment complex somewhat like her own butwith a big difference. This was the building where Wufei lived. Sally froze, then tried to turn around, but her feet lead herup the steps, into the building, into an elevator that took her to the fifth floor, and right to the door to Wufei's apartment. Itwas only when her finger was hovering in front of the doorbell that she was able to come out of the spell. She looked atthe doorbell and hesitated. That was her mistake, for she hadn't realized how exhausted she was. Her eyes closedbefore she could push the doorbell and she collapsed onto the floor.

There would be two of us standing here in front of you

If you could show me that someone that I used to be

Bring back my baby, my baby, my baby to me . . ."

Inside the apartment, Wufei was looking at a photo album that held page after page of him, the Gundam pilots, the girls (Relena, Hilde, Noin, Catherine, Sally, and Dorothy), and Zechs Merquise a.k.a. Milliardo Peacecraft. They were all smiling and having fun, even he and Heero were laughing. Then he came across pictures of him and Sally: the day the were accepted into the ranks of the Preventers, the day of Heero and Relena's wedding (there was a nice shot of him and Sally blushing when Relena told them about the "legend"), the day Duo and Hilde got married (and Duo had teased him and Sally about getting the bouquet and garter again), the day Quatre and Dorothy got married (and Duo had gotten a really big kick outta the fact the Wufei and Sally had ended up with the bouquet and garter yet again), and the day they had gotten the bouquet and garter yet again at Zechs and Noin's wedding (this was becoming very tiring), and many other memories that were very fond now. Especially since he and Sally had had that fight. Wufei looked up from the album and took a gloomy sip of coffee. Ever since the previous night, he had been moping about, calling in sick at the Preventers' office, and wandering aimlessly around the apartment building and the surrounding area. He looked over at the mirror that stood in the living room and saw a tired, weary, and wrecked soldier looking back at him. He wondered if the legends his clan used to tell, about mirrors reflecting your true soul, were true. He sat up straight, suddenly alert, when he heard a light 'thump' come from the hallway just outside his door. Cautiously, he reached for the gun that was laying on the table to his right and crept slowly over to the door. He unlocked in silently, opened it, and sprung out into the hall, ready for anything. When he saw no one there, he let his gun down, about to go back in, when he noticed the person lying on the floor at his feet. He turned them over and was shocked to see who it was.

"What the . . . Sally . . ." he said softly, wondering what she was doing lying on the floor, unconscious, in front of his apartment.

Wufei picked up his comrade and walked back into his apartment, setting her down on the couch in his living room gently. He went into the bathroom across from the living room and returned a moment later with a first aid kit. He never used to keep one but Sally, stubborn as she was, convinced him to. Now, he was glad that she had. He dabbed at the numerous cuts and bruises on her face and arms, where the sleeves of her shirt had been rolled up. As he did this, he noticed how haggard she looked. Not really haggard, but pale and strained, and she also looked as if she hadn't gotten any sleep the previous night. Her hair was a matted mess, her clothes were torn, and she looked muddy, as if she'd been running through the rain and had tripped a few times. When Wufei was done, he wrapped her up in a blanket and started a fire in his fireplace so that she would dry quicker. Ten minutes later, she stirred, and her eyes opened in alarm. She looked around at where she was, then looked back at who had brought her here from her previous position in the hall. She closed her eyes again and Wufei could hear her curse under her breath, and was hard-pressed not to laugh when he heard her mutter, "Now he probably thinks that I'm weak for sure."

"I don't." he assured her. She looked up, surprised.

"Wufei . . ." she said, not knowing how she should apologize, for she knew now that the argument had not been his fault entirely.

Wufei held up a hand and shook his head.

"No, don't apologize. It was my fault for being so stubborn and not listening and I'm really very sorry." he said, looking like this took a LOT of effort. Sally smiled.

"It was my fault too, Wufei. Just because I didn't want to hear what you wanted to say, I didn't listen. I didn't give you a chance and I'm very sorry, too." she said sincerely, sitting up and sticking a hand out of the cover that she was still holding around her shoulders.

"Friends?" she asked, tipping her head to the right inquisitively. Wufei looked at her hand for a moment before taking it in his own and shaking it firmly. Before Sally could take her hand back, though, he had leant forward and kissed her. Sally was so shocked that she couldn't react. When he pulled away, she reached a hand up and touched her lips, the smiled, leaned forward, and kissed him back. Now, she thought as they kissed, now all I have to do is get rid of his woman-insulting . . .
