Hilde gathered her coat and sighed. Tonight wasn't it. He would not admit his feelings for her. After so many years of waiting, she wondered if he ever would.

"It's late, Hilde. You can't go. I don't even want to think of you walking home through all the weirdo's out tonight! You'll just have to stay here." Duo was adamant.

Every baka and his gang leader was celebrating the new year. The mere idea of her leaving left him cold. He pictured a stalker around every corner.

"I don't think so, Duo." She replied.

Hilde knew that she would end up crawling into bed with him. She had moved out when the pretense became too hard. Living with him, day after day, and pretending to feel sisterly was impossible. She wanted to be Deaths lady.

"Why not? It's not as if I'm a stranger! Hilde, you're not going."

Ignoring his worry, she grabbed her coat and headed for the door.

"Stop being so paranoid, Duo. I'll be fine."

She never made it outside. He grabbed her wrist as she passed, and pulled her back into the living room. Pushing her down onto the sofa, he thought nothing of following her down and pinning her.

"I don't think I made a suggestion, Babe. You know better than to walk out this late! Damn, what's your problem?"

She continued to fight him, trying to get Duo to let go. A strange look came into her eyes, one that spoke of fear.

"Your lying."

"What?" Hilde stammered.

"I know you, Babe. Your my best friend, and I know when your lying. What are you hiding?" He ran his finger down her cheek, resting on her mouth. Fascinated, he watched as she hissed in her breath and tried to draw away.

"Nothing!" She went to shove him off of her, but curled her hands around his shoulders instead. "Get off!"

Not missing a thing, he smiled inwardly.

Experimentally, he continued to run his finger down to her throat, feeling her pulse jump at the contact. Upping the ante, he lowered his mouth closer to hers. Almost touching her lips, he whispered,

"What are you doing?" Hilde asked him, hesitating as his lips lowered towards hers.

Kissing her soft lips, he marveled at the velvet texture. She was so sweet, and he had wanted to do this forever. Encouraged, he deepened the kiss. Her arms twisted around his neck, her hands tightening into his hair.

Outside, Duo could hear the shouts and laughter of the citizens of L2. The atmosphere was frenzied and drunk. Inside, Duo was intoxicated by something else.

He broke the kiss, gasping for breath. His gaze, soft, met hers, questioning.

She reached up and wrapped his braid around her hand. Jerking him back down, she grinned impishly. "You don't kiss someone like that and just stop."

He smiled, slowly. For once in his life, he didn't hide his feelings. They shown from his eyes for her to read. Deep, forever love that bordered on being obsessive. Hilde reveled in it's wildness, her fears erased.

Kissing her softly, he stood up. Taking her hand in his, he led her to his room. Thier first time would not be on a crowded couch. Gently, almost afraid that she would disappear, he unbuttoned her blouse. Hilde reached under his shirt, wanting to touch, but he pushed her hands away. Smiling, he placed her arms at her side, shaking his head 'no.' Confused, she watched as he fell to his knees in front of her.
